As an epically privileged white male, I have had the good fortune to work all my adult life as a human rights lawyer, fighting for justice for people singled out by the state for imprisonment or execution.
The Justice League is my new and, I hope, final project.
I am now in my 60s and I want to spend the next 10 years supporting a generation of new advocates for justice. I want to make sure that these young people have the motivation, mentoring and money that they need to launch their own careers using the law as their superpower to protect vulnerable people and our vulnerable planet from harm.
I am doing this by working with young people in schools, universities and via apprenticeships, and providing them with hands on experience of human rights work on my own cases and projects.
Having stepped away from my founder role at Reprieve, I am not attempting to build a huge new organisation. I have taken with me the cases where as an American attorney-at-law I provide representation to clients, such as Krishna Maharaj and the Guantánamo prisoners.
The Justice League is a lean outfit, basically me and the young people I am working with and some logistical support. It is a community interest company, which means it has a social purpose, and does not make a profit.
