I am mentoring a diverse group of human rights apprentices, from the UK and the US. They work both on both sides of the Atlantic on cases and projects that I’m involved in. I am particularly keen to work with young people from backgrounds that are under-represented in the legal profession.
The apprentices learn by doing, trying their hands at factual investigation, legal research, recording, writing, and wider campaigning. Most of our apprentices come from programs I am teaching at Bristol University and Goldsmiths, including but not limited to legal studies.
What I really want to do it to help young people identify what the educationalist Sir Ken Robinson dubbed their “element.” He wrote that a person’s element is “the place where their passion meets their talents.”
Spending time as an apprentice with the Justice League enables young people to work out whether human rights work might be their "element," as it has been mine.
The Justice League provides match funds when the apprentices raise money (via Crowdfunder) to support their own work placements and travel costs. If you would like to learn more about the apprenticeships, please click the button below.
